Milk thistle is promoted as a dietary supplement for hepatitis, cirrhosis, jaundice, diabetes, indigestion, and other conditions. Blessed thistle contains chemicals called tannins, which might help with diarrhea, cough, and swelling. People use blessed thistle for indigestion, infections, wounds, and many other conditions.

Its consumption has been associated with decreased risk of breast cancer as well as neurodegenerative disorders. Parts of the mahogany tree, including the bark, has been used as local treatment of fertility in men and women. In men, it has been said to cure impotence or erectile dysfunction as it improves erection. In women, it increases the chances of getting pregnant.

People take myrtle for treating lung infections including bronchitis, whooping cough, and tuberculosis. They also take it for bladder conditions, diarrhea, persistent heartburn, heavy periods, yeast infections, and worms. Myrtle is used on the skin for warts and in the mouth for canker sores and thrush. Most parts of the plant have culinary uses.  The berries that follow the flowers are edible.  Fruits, flowers and leaves when dried are used as a food flavoring.  The leaves are also used as a bay leaf substitute.  Some even use the wood to flavor meats.  When added to a charcoal grill, the wood will add a mild flavor to your BBQ. Very resistant to honey fungus. Oils obtained from the bark, flowers and leaves are used in the production of skin care products.
